Once inside, the fungus develops haustoria O_O finger like feeding structures that insert into living leaf cells without immediately killing them. These haustoria form intimate contact with the cell membrane to siphon nutrients directly from the cytoplasm.

All of this internal colonization happens before you see any visible symptoms. Notice the trend here, guys? O_O a force stays completely silent until it suddenly ambushes you with a full blown raid…
The white powdery coating you eventually notice is the fungus’s reproductive stage O_O chains of asexual spores (conidia) produced on structures called conidiophores that emerge from the leaf surface.
Conidiophores : a specialized, stalk-like branch of a fungal hypha that produces and bears conidia, which are asexual, non-motile spores. ←Dictionary
By the time you see white powder, the infection has been active inside the leaf for days.
This is why surface only treatments have limited success.
Contact fungicides and home remedies (potassium bicarbonate, hydrogen peroxide, milk, etc.) can kill exposed spores and surface mycelium, but they don’t reach the haustoria already embedded inside leaf cells.
The colony can regenerate from within.
O_O they regenerate like Deadpool…
Systemic fungicides work better because they’re absorbed into plant tissue and can reach the internal feeding structures.
Prevention through airflow and humidity management is so effective because powdery mildew spores need specific conditions to germinate successfully o_O and stagnant air with poor circulation lets spores settle and concentrate on leaf surfaces.
The white coating is just the reproductive symptom.
The real disease has been inside your plant the whole time…
